On our FAMU stop today, I was asked by a student how not to become discouraged when it seems that your personal journey to becoming a physician seems longer compared to others. This is a great question, because it reminds me of my own non-traditional personal journey that was extended by one year to take additional graduate courses before entering medical school. There were times when I envied previous classmates who were ahead of me in their journey although we started college around the same time. However, as my journey continued, I realized that I am the physician who I was called to be because of the unique experiences I faced during my personal journey.
Everyone had their own unique journey. No matter how long or short it may be compared to others, this journey will be what shapes you into the awesome physician or dentist that you will become.
